A few good music videos
Posted in Motion Graphics, Music on March 9th, 2009
I have a love for music videos. Well, not all of them, but the ones who are artsy, different and/or tells a story. Over the years I've found a lot of good videos to love, and I've had the good fortune to work on several videos myself (and appear in a few).
Enter Johan Söderberg. A brilliant editor/director/artist, who is probably best known for the "hung up" video for Madonna. I'd like to point out his video for the Swedish/Scania band, Familjen. He edited and directed the video for the catchy tune, "Det Snurrar I Min Skalle". The video won a grammy for best video in Sweden, and is just amazing, as it enforces the lyrics. Based on an old clip of a religious gathering, it just shows how simple you can do a good video, as long as you get creative in the editing and have a good idea.
As an additional bonus, check out the video for the Knife's "Pass This On" - also very, very cool.
While being on the subject of The Knife, I give you "What else is there" by Royksopp. I heard the trentemøller remix a few times before I heard the original. It's an amazing song in its own right, but the video just takes the cake.
It's directed by a young Danish director, Martin de Thurah, who is apparently working at Academy Films in London. Post was done by Duckling, a Danish visual effects company (and can be found in better quality on their site). Anyhow, the video reminds a bit of Chris Cunninghams style, and a bit of Jonathan Glazer's Karma Police video for Radiohead. I love the flying houses that break apart. The lead in the video is an model/actress, she's not the one singing. The vocal is by Karin Dreijer Andersson, of The Knife, who also appears in the video. She is the priestess in the still life scene.
